Oh, the joys of dry, flaky skin.
Although itchy, painful, and arguably unsightly, dry skin can present an excellent opportunity to analyze our inner landscape. Can we heal our skin from within?
Absolutely.
First, consuming healthy sources of fat (like grass-fed tallow, lard, raw butter, avocados, olive oil) nourishes the internal terrain so that our skin is moist and plump.
A thriving gut will process and assimilate these healthy fats for immediate use, but what if your gut needs some extra care? If your skin remains dry despite consuming healthy fats this could indicate that your gut needs attention. (Also, if you notice an oily slick in the toilet after a bowel movement, this is a sign that your gut is unable to process fats.)
Next, drinking raw kombucha can assist your body in processing and assimilating fats (and foods in general) because of the probiotic activity and lower pH level. Using digestive herbal bitters will stimulate bile production to facilitate nutrient absorption as well. Incorporate raw kombucha and herbal bitters into your daily routine, and watch your skin glow!
Finally, adrenal cocktails are another important way to help the body retain moisture by remineralizing from within. (Recipe coming soon!)
Topically, cleansing the skin with diluted raw apple cider vinegar (ACV) is an excellent way to smooth and nourish skin. Skin prefers an acidic pH. The natural acids in raw ACV also increase circulation and decrease pain and inflammation.
I begin each day by skin brushing and then cleanse my skin with 1/4 cup raw ACV (with the mother) mixed with 3/4 cup of filtered water. I submerge a washcloth in the diluted ACV mixture, wring out, and rub down from head to toe (dipping the washcloth back into the solution as necessary). Note: the vinegar smell dissipates as it dries.
My skin has never been smoother and healthier! Be ready to permanently say goodbye to dry, cracked knees and elbows.
How is your skin feeling these days? I wish you supple, radiant skin!
