We went camping last weekend, and my children made some friends at the campground. I later heard their new friends coughing profusely – the deeply rooted, mucousy, painful coughing. I squeezed fresh lime juice and infused mullein leaf to naturally support our immune systems, and this flavor was created! Mullein leaf has a neutral flavor, so the fresh-squeezed lime juice combines with raw water kefir for a natural limeade taste. My children could not stop drinking this! And guess what? We maintained our health and vitality the entire weekend! I chose this flavor for the nutritional and medicinal possibilities.

Limes

  • excellent source of vitamin C (boosts the immune system and stimulates collagen production)
  • rich in fiber and antioxidants to fight free radicals
  • contain flavonoids that treat respiratory disorders by working as anti-congestive relief
  • have antibiotic and disinfectant properties
  • stimulate the digestive system and increase the secretion of digestive juices, bile, and acids
  • excellent weight reducer and fat burner
  • limonoids stimulate the healing process of peptic and oral ulcers
  • help to regulate the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream, reducing the occurrence of blood sugar spikes
  • have a low glycemic index (will not cause an unexpected spike in glucose levels
  • reduce inflammation of the blood vessels (preventative measure against heart diseases, heart attacks, and strokes)
  • protect the eyes from aging and macular degeneration
  • have fever-reducing qualities and relieve constipation
  • rejuvenate the skin and reduce body odor

Mullein Leaf

  • considered the herb of choice for respiratory problems and pulmonary diseases
  • traditionally used to treat coughs, colds, croup, bronchitis, allergies, whooping cough, and asthma
  • contains mucilaginous compounds that decrease the thickness of mucosal fluids, and also increase the production (this helps to loosen mucus and expel it out of the body)
  • calms spasms and helps reduce swelling of the glandular system
  • has great anti-inflammatory properties that make it a good treatment for skin conditions such as ulcers, hemorrhoids, eczema, and acne
  • soothes inflamed tissues
  • great as a general pain reliever
  • high in iron, magnesium, potassium, and sulphur
  • note: if you choose to use your own mullein leaf, make sure to strain through two layers of cheesecloth. You need to remove the potentially irritating hair-like particles when straining out the herb.
